Artist's Description

'Chu Teh-Chun (Kintsugi #6)' is from a series of 10. Chu Teh-Chun (1920-2014) was an acclaimed Chinese-French abstract artist whose pottery is the subject of this series by the same name. These paintings first appear as non-representational kintsugi works, but are in fact highly detailed representations; each 12”X12” painting is a faithful rendering of a portion of one of Teh-Chun’s glazed porcelain surfaces.

Chu Teh-Chun pottery is the realization of a wonderful synthesis of traditional Chinese and contemporary Western abstract art. In these vessels Teh-Chun maintains the familiar potter’s palette of blue and white glazes, but centuries old motifs of dragons and patterns are nowhere seen in Teh-Chun’s wares, they are re-visioned as washes, strokes and drips of deep translucent blues and flicks of gold. The Chu Teh-Chun series are symbolic pieces, pure kintsugi, emblems of endurance, strength, renewal, and rebirth.
